Piano Tutor Book 1

Piano Tutor Book 1 is designed for the total beginner. It is the first book in an exciting new series by Andrea Monk. It teaches you step by step how to read piano sheet music which is written in music symbols. The aim of the series is to empower you to confidently read music and play it on a piano or keyboard.

Tutor Book 1 is written using a combination of traditional folk music, classical piano music plus original compositions by Andrea Monk. In Book 1 your thumbs share the note middle C. Each of your fingers stay on the same note. In piece 1 you will be using 2 fingers only in each hand. By piece 10 you will be playing with all 10 fingers.

Helpful tips and suggestions are written underneath each piece of music.

The art of piano playing is to read two lines of music simultaneously. Book 1 takes you very slowly, step by step, through this process. Keep your eyes on the music and move them in a “saw tooth” direction: up, down, up, down, reading both lines of music smoothly.
