6/8 Time Signature

6/8 means 6 quavers in a bar, divided into 2 groups of 3 quavers. It has the feel of a march.



3 Linked Quavers

In 6/8, 3 linked quavers take up half a bar.  To feel the rhythm, say:  “pin-ap-ple



Crotchet then Quaver

In 6/8, a crotchet then quaver take up half a bar. To feel the rhythm, say: “pea—–ches”



Dotted Crotchet

In 6/8, a dotted crotchet takes up half a bar. To feel the rhythm, say: “plum”



Key Signature of C Major or A Minor

The key signature with no sharps or flats is used by both C Major and A Minor.



Key Signature of G Major or E Minor

The key signature with one sharp is used by both G major and E minor. The sharp written in the key signature is ALWAYS F sharp. 



Key Signature of D Major or B Minor

The key signature with two sharps is used by both D major and B minor. The two sharps written in the key signature are ALWAYS F sharp and C sharp. 



Key Signature of F Major or D Minor

The key signature with one flat is used by both F major and D minor. The flat written in the key signature is ALWAYS B flat. 



Key Signature of B Flat Major or G Minor

The key signature with two sharps is used by both B flat major and G minor. The two sharps written in the key signature are ALWAYS B flat and E flat.



Triplet Quavers

Triplet quavers are written as 3 linked quavers with a bracket and a number 3. This means play 3 quavers in the time of 2 quavers. They are played quicker than regular quavers. To feel the rhythm, say: “Pin-ap-ple” or “Ev-en-ly”
